“The King of Kickboxing” showed the world what he’s made of as he battered and outmaneuvered pound-for-pound great Oleksandr Usyk at his own game for much of the fight. Over ten rounds, Rico Verhoeven kept his composure and pressured the reigning champion, slowly breaking the Ukrainian down to the surprise of fans and boxing pundits alike.
Landing thudding right hands throughout the contest, Verhoeven carried his momentum into the championship rounds, but the eleventh ultimately marked his downfall.

Usyk landed a cracking uppercut followed by a flurry just as the bell sounded to end the round, seemingly giving Verhoeven a deserved chance to recover ahead of the final frame. The stoppage, officially recorded at 2:59 of the eleventh round, immediately sparked backlash online and from those at ringside.
